Special Poojas are conducted during the last Friday of every month, Karthigai, Aadi Ammavasai (new moon day), Thai Ammavasai and Panguni Uthiram.
Lord Muruga gave darshan to sage Agasthiar at Thirumalai . Every day sago Agasthiar who lived in Podhigai hills came to Thirumalai for worshipping Muruga.
He formed a spring named poonchunai to perform Abisheka, to arug a (he dug three pits) In the name of Sun, Moon and fire on the spring. There will be always water in this pit . When the water level decreases it gets filled by rain . Everyday a flower (Kuvalaipoo) bloomed in this spring. The Sabdha Kannigar worshipped Lord Muruga by offering the flower.
A total of 10 inscriptions are found at this temple providing information about the donations given by various rulers. A 1750 A.D Copper inscription is seen at this temple.
